  • Thoughts on web frameworks
Hi, I'm pretty new to web development and I've been recently looking into different web frameworks for Python and Ruby. I was wondering if any of you have any tips or recommendations on which language to get more involved with and which frameworks you prefer: django, rails, etc. Thanks!!

  • I'm not an expert. I've only worked through a couple basic implementations of Rails and one of Django. To me Django seems a bit easier to make sense of. My preference is for Django but it's because of how I feel about Ruby vs Python. Both are great languages. My favorite feature of Python is that it mostly provides only one way of accomplishing something whereas ruby will have several methods which perform almost the same task. This makes finding help online a little easier with Python. You can typically find code snippets and make sense of it, but it takes a bit more effort with Ruby

  • It's probably a matter of personal taste. In my case, I love Python and Django. You might want to try the Django tutorial, if you haven't yet. It might take you a couple of days to squeeze all the juice out of it, but it's definitely a great way to start. Django provides some of the best documentation I've ever read.
