  • What programming language to learn first?
I am new to Coderbyte. What is the best language to learn first and how? That might help me for admission to a top university for BSc in Computer Science and Engineering. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  • It depends on why. If purely academic, I'd suggest Python. If you want a job right away, learn JavaScript. Python is one of the easiest languages to learn, but JavaScript is now useful on the backend (NodeJS) as well as the front-end, so you have more options. I see Python used a lot with data science, so if that's your forte, go with that. Above all, decide what you want to do, then learn the language that will help you get there. With pretty much every language there is usually a good source of reference like the PHP or Python manuals, Mozilla Developer Network (HTML, CSS, JS), etc. Beyond that there are lots of good tutorials and courses available for free or cheap.

  • If you are fresher in programming, then I suggest you to learn C language first and then go to learn any Object Oriented Programming language like Java or .Net as per your interest. Java has more popular programming language today so go with it. Take help from online tutorials and read book for doing this. startwithjava.com C Book Balaguruswamy Java Book HeadFirst

  • If you choose from the languages that are available on this website, I would recommend Python. It is very comfortable for beginners, but supply advanced features too, such as functional-orientation and unit-tests. Google "why mit python". Although I prefer C#. :)

  • I would tend to recommend Python, Java, PHP, and/or JavaScript. All are in high demand. Python is probably the easiest language to learn.
